El Mesías, composed by the producer, composer and arranger José Enrique de la Vega, with texts by the brothers Antonio and Francisco Martínez Bizcocho based on the canonical gospels (Saint Mark, Saint Matthew, Saint Lucas and Saint John), is an oratory divided in 4 parts and 22 movements which narrates, in musical and literary form, the annunciation, life, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
El Mesías is the new production of Cantores de Híspalis on occasion of their comeback following the pandemic and the death of Pascual González, their most emblematic member.
Cantores de Híspalis is now captivating its audiences with a new stunning mise-en-scène of its most personal work, accompanied by 16 musicians. The story of Jesus is narrated and sung with a symphonic undertone, intended to embrace people all over the world. A tribute to musical mastery and a celebration of the connection between music and the soul.
In 2000, Cantores de Híspalis decided to create Sevilla reza cantando, a show devoted exclusively to the world of brotherhoods. This was followed in 2007 by La Pasion según Andalucia, which was performed for two years with great success. But Cristo. Pasión y esperanza (2017) was without any doubt the group’s major and most relevant brotherhood-related religious work until the premier of El Mesías in 2023. El Mesías exceeds all the others in terms of its spiritual impact, offering a more transcendental and committed vision without lessening the genuine style of the cherished group from Seville.
